Really enjoyed Tavis Smiley’s show tonight with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary fame.

The part of the interview I found so amazing was the part that continued the theme of the recent retreat I attended.

Tavis-Which raises this question for me, what happend to the notion of love in our public discourse because if you in the Peter, Paul and Mary tradition or the Dr. King tradition try to talk about, even utter the word love in public discourse today, you are laughed off the stage. What ever happend to love in our public discourse?

Peter-I’m going to answer this musically.

Paul-We’re talking about r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

Peter-What has happened to it? We are a nation with a bruised heart. Because the issue is just not policy change but heart change and if we reach the children so that they can stop this cycle of hatred and fear, so they can stop injuring each other, emotional violence, a physical violence that causes kids to take their own lives. What we will do is restore the heart of America. That is our #1 task. Your #1 task right here.
