Throw kindness around like confetti.

And the Oscar goes to

OK, drum roll please. ? Here you go…and surprises, ❣️ I think.

  1. Elvis
  2. Top Gun Maverick
  3. Avatar The Way of Water
  4. The Fabelmans
  5. Everything Everywhere All At Once
  6. Tar
  7. Triangle of Sadness
  8. The Banshees of Inisherin
  9. Women Talking
  10. All Quiet on the Western Front

Let me explain why a couple of these choices were made. I re-watched EEAAO and tuned out the scenes that I didn’t like…the martial arts ones mainly, and pretty much was able to get the gist of the story. On first viewing I really did not like the “alternate egos from another verse” for each character so it turned me off but I was better able to understand the purpose of the characters this time.

I love Cate Blanchette and will rate any movie she is in pretty high. I also thought the story was really good and interesting to see the power dymanics shifts from the male side we hear so much about to the female side, which can be just as shattering with powerful women dynamics for less powerful women and men.

I thought Top Gun was really well made and I’m a huge fan of Miles Teller. Cruise is also an underated actor and he played the part well. The story was predictable, but I like that in a movie sometimes.

The Fabelmans taught me things I didn’t know about Steven’s family and it was interesting to see how genius is born. Is there no role that Michelle Williams can’t make better?!?! She’s a mini-Meryl.

If Austin Butler won the Oscar, I wouldn’t disagree. He ***was ***Elvis.

Avatar deserves all the cinematic Oscars.

Finally, my top 4 (my lucky number, did I ever tell you that? ? )…

Triangle of Sadness-hit many nerves, capitalism, f*ck the rich, displaying an image for the world that’s not really true, etc etc etc. What a surprise of a movie and how delighted I was to view it!

Banshees … the setting, the story, the study in rejection and friend/unfriend-ship. It just registered with me so righteously.

Women Talking – Powerful, true, tortured, communication, decision-making, consensus…it had everything.

All Quiet on the Western Front – probably the hardest to watch movie about war that I’ve ever seen but one that every enlisted person should watch and the generals of the world must watch it yearly. What an awesome anti-war movie! It probably won’t win BP but it should get the Best International Feature Oscar, along with several other technical awards.

That’s it. Tell me where you disagree. My disengagement from work happened just at the proper time for me to concentrate on this vast array of movies and I’m working my way through the other major nominated categories.

Finally, a quote from EEAAO: With every passing moment you feel you might have missed your chance to make something of your life. I’m here to tell you, every rejection, every disappointment has led you here to this moment. Don’t let anything distract you from it.
