That’s Not Change I Can Believe In

My email to her:

I hope that you have had time to re-consider your decision to terminate my volunteer relationship with the Office of Presidential Correspondence now that you know all the facts:

* That I acted responsibly and immediately responded to your questions and concerns
* That I used stock photos from Google images in the posts and not images from your office
* That I was never told by anyone in the Obama campaign or your office not to blog my positive experiences with the campaign or the Office of Presidential Correspondence
* That by me mentioning the ethical boundaries in my blog, I believed that I was not crossing any boundaries with anything that I wrote
* That after our phone conversation, I understand that blogging my experiences with the Office of Presidential Correspondence is not acceptable
* That I have learned from this experience and won’t let it happen again
* That Candidate and President Obama has, when faced with mistakes by himself or others, been willing to address them, correct them, and learn from them (and not necessarily terminate a good person from his rank & file…I’m a dedicated volunteer and supporter of President Obama)

Her reply:

I am sorry but the decision stands.

  • Guess since my position has been terminated, my role has changed from volunteer to citizen journalist.

This episode was especially upsetting to me as it was on the same day that President Obama’s attorney general dropped the charges on Sen. Stevens of Alaska and I watched Ed Schultz plugging his new show on Countdown last night say “how *fair* the Obama administration is.” I agree. It just seems that President Obama’s underlings haven’t gotten the memo.

One strike and I was out! before I was even told the rules of the game I was playing by the same office that fired me as a volunteer.

A quick note to volunteers of the Obama administration…I still totally support President Obama as I have been doing since I heard him speak at the Democratic Convention in 2004. Just be careful in your volunteer capacity as some of his staff have let power overtake their sense of fairness in dealing with the same volunteers that worked our hearts out and got Obama elected in the first place.

  • What a bunch of freaking babys!!! This is wack as hell that you got fired over what i would call a “technicality” at best. Was there anything wrong with your blog? As a volunteer manager myself at a nonprofit we would never just fire someone unless it was a grave mistake. Total wackness. Obama would be mad.
